The production by the director Vladimir Timanov and the designer Stefania Graurogkaite is both a philosophic parable and a bright naughty show, that will carry away adults and children.
“The Cat that Walked by Himself” is a story about love, devotion, friendship and about how hard it is to save them. The whole story is permeated with the spirit of pioneering work. Everything here takes place for the first time. The Boy discovers the world, new, unusual, and attractive. He is not an unreasonable child any more, because the most wonderful has been revealed to him – the universe of human feelings and relations, which are so intricate and many-sided.
Everyone is familiar with the acute feeling of maternal love, when you want “to wrap the child in cotton wool” in order that he/she be protected from everything that may threaten. The Woman is particularly anxious about the Boy, because the Wild Woods with the Tiger and the Jackal are near. Moreover, the Man wants the Baby to grow up into a man’s man. The life in the Wild Woods has temptations and enticements in store. The cat, beguiling and independent, not wishing to submit to anyone, grants friendship to the Boy and gives him with the main thing in the world – desire for freedom.
But there is the Wild Dog who doesn’t want to be alone, even though he has a good nose, the Wild Horse who has got tired with running about steppe and forests, the Wild Cow who wants to give someone her milk.
Man turned them into the First Friends and the First Servants. Only the Cat walks where he wants and leaves when he decides. How is it possible to correlate the desire for independence and the joy of devotion? When does the freedom end and the responsibility for those whom we tamed and love start?
